About Africa Healthcare Network

healthCARE for the developing world

Africa Healthcare Network (AHN) was founded in 2015 when co-founder Nikhil Pereira-Kamath took a leave of absence from Harvard Business School to establish the first private dialysis center in Rwanda. Patients lacked access to care and Nikhil and his co-founder Dr. Lloyd Vincent dedicated themselves to building out high-quality dialysis services across the region.

Since then, AHN has grown to over 32+ centers across East Africa, as the largest provider of dialysis and preventative care, employing ~400 people (65%+ women). AHN is currently the fastest-growing healthcare services company across Africa, with plans to expand to 100+ centers by 2025, becoming the leading platform across Africa.

AHN is distinctive for a number of reasons:

Access to Care

Whereas high quality dialysis has historically only been available in big cities like Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, or Kigali, AHN brings life-sustaining care to patients including hard to reach remote areas. Majority of AHN centers are located in rural or sub-urban areas.

Global Innovation

The co-founders are pioneers in the nephrology community globally, bringing top-notch, holistic renal care to Africa. AHN has developed Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to improve care and reduce the impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Talent Upskilling

AHN provides industry-leading 12-week training programs and ongoing education to hundreds of nurses and nurse assistants, helping raise the bar for the healthcare industry in this region.

Profitable

AHN is profitable and scaling rapidly, bringing investment into East Africa as the fastest growing healthcare services company on the continent right now.

Community Impact

While we are encouraged by our business results, we aspire to be “a force for good” more broadly. AHN has a very proud history of ethical behavior and is committed to raising the bar on issues related to CSR, Diversity/Inclusion, & ESG.

While AHN is profitable and focused on delivering exceptional business results, we aspire to be more than just a successful company, as we seek to be a “force for good” more broadly in Africa.
