AHN conducts Food Drive to support Homeless of Nairobi

On Wednesday March 15th 2023 more than 20 AHN team members in Nairobi joined hands to support their community through a local charitable organization, Homeless of Nairobi (HoN). Homeless of Nairobi is an organization that has been in existence for 8 years, and which runs several community support programs, including; a children’s home, a feeding program (that feeds approximately 100 people daily), and Shule Mtaani, a program that seeks to empower, educate and rehabilitate youth from the streets.

Following consultations with HoN, the AHN team chose to support the children’s home with food and other items, as well as provide food hampers to 50 needy elderly families in Deep Sea community in Highridge. Each food hamper contained several kilos of Rice, Maize flour, Green grams, Cooking oil, Sugar and Cabbage, which was enough to last at least one week. The children’s home also received the same food items as well as sanitary towels and cleaning supplies.

The first part of the morning was spent organizing the donations and packing the hampers. Once that was done several team members volunteered to deliver the items to the children’s home as well as to the elderly recipients in Deep Sea.

A representative from Homeless of Nairobi also gave a talk to the team to let them know more about the organization and some of the challenges that they experience, such as the high cost of school fees for the children in the home, as well as fires which occasionally break out in Deep Sea, the most recent of which burned down the organisations Library (which is currently being reconstructed). All in all, it was a good morning for all.
